santa barbara - the mission

July 14th, 2008 Posted in news | No Comments »

day and night shots of the mission.  the night shots were taken at around 9:45 at night, so I apologize that there was no sky in the shots.  it was a pretty dull sunset anyway, so i didn’t miss much.  there was a nice garden across the street, so i took more macro shots!

seattle - out and about (day two)

July 6th, 2008 Posted in news | No Comments »

the great white barry and i went out to snoqualmie falls to check out the waterfall and explore some hiking trails.  after the 0.5 mile hike down to the waterfall base, and jumping the observation deck to get down on to the water, we were hit with a nice little thunderstorm.  because of the spray from the waterfall, the cloudy skies, and the thunderstorm most of our shots were ruined by the water droplets that were accumulating on our filters.  our hiking plans were ruined because of the rain, but it was nice spending time in the outdoors.

later that evening we went to kerry park in queen anne to catch the sunset.  kerry park is where many of the seattle skyline photos are taken.  i’ve got a few that were okay, but without the use of a tripod and some post processing it won’t get close to the postcard-style photos you see.  after that, we trekked to the opposite side of the city to alki beach to take photos of seattle downtown (the shots of seattle not taken from kerry park, were probably taken from the alki beach area).  again, lack of tripod (i did use barry’s tripod for a few shots) and some intensive post processing would be required to make something amazing from my shots.  i love the blue that came out of most of my alki shots…i was handholding the camera and running in shutter priority mode 1/2.5 - 1/4.0

seattle - july 4th 2008 fireworks @ elliot bay

July 5th, 2008 Posted in news | No Comments »

this was my first time shooting fireworks, and i didn’t have a monopod or tripod.  i was rolling with the d40x and the nikon 18-200mm VR zoom lens.  i handheld some of the shots, and also placed the camera on a ledge to take some photos with slower shutter speeds (8 seconds - 30 seconds).  most of my shots were blurry and out of focus because i didn’t have a tripod, so i didn’t even bother posting them.  the shots here are the ones that i liked for one reason or another, though most of them are crappy.

seattle - out and about (day one)

July 5th, 2008 Posted in news | No Comments »

finally get to enjoy seattle and everything it has to offer.  day one concluded with visits to pike place, ballard locks, fish ladders, fisherman’s terminal, discovery park, sculpture park, space needle, emp, & the 4th of july fireworks over elliot bay…not to mention all the food.

here’s the first set of day one photos: pike place, elliot bay, sculpture park, aquarium, ballard locks, discovery park (note that some of the macro flower shots were taken by the great white barry.  he was borrowing my camera to play with the 70-300 sigma dg lens with macro option)
